Outings

Once COVID restrictions have been lifted the club hope to coordinate visits to fisheries further afield. If you are interested in being kept informed about any trips please email tourists@mntfa.co.uk with details of which venues you would like to visit. Additional venues can be added to the examples below.

It is expected that this will be informal, rather like the Tuesday Social fishing. Many of these venues lend themselves to an overnight stay. As one example, a trip to fish around Builth Wells or the Brecons might involve driving there fairly early, fishing, staying over, fishing next day until, say, mid-afternoon then driving home.

With the exception of the Test which will have to be after October 1 st , all of the others listed can be largely at any time of year. Some of these rivers like the Wye fish well in the summer months when our local reservoirs are less productive. One caution with the big rivers like the Wye is that they can very quickly become unfishable after heavy rain.

Please indicate when you would be interested in being a tourist. Also, although many MNTFA members are retired, others still keep the wheels of industry turning. So, if interested please also state week days or weekends in your response.

Once a shortlist emerges, suitable lodgings will be identified and day ticket details obtained. Individuals will be responsible for their own day ticket and accommodation purchases. Hopefully some car-sharing will be possible. It is anticipated that any group of tourists will eat and drink together in a local hostelry and maybe stay in the same hotel, typically a Premier Inn or similar. Still water venues under consideration include:

Dever Springs (SO21 3NP) specimen fishery, day ticket £50-£75
Lechlade (GL7 3AP) another specimen fishery, day ticket £75
Chew (BS40 8XH) similar size to Grafham, boat day ticket £45

River stretches under consideration include:

– River Test just south of Wherwell (SP11 7JX) main river, grayling, after 1 st October, day ticket around £60 – limited to 4 anglers on any one day

– River Dove, River Chernet near Uttoxeter (ST14 8EU) trout and grayling, annual permit £45 / £38 seniors

– River Wye, River Irfon around Builth Wells (LD2 3BH), trout and grayling, annual permit £20, day ticket £10

– River Wye, River Usk, River Monnow (HR4 9HS) Fishing Passport, trout and some grayling, day ticket £20

Depending on the response, venues, day ticket details, and accommodation details will be emailed and published on the MNTFA web site and in the calendar.

Finally, if you are interested in fishing any of the above venues with fellow MNTFA members and non-members, please email tourists@mntfa.co.uk with:
